Visiting a venue before a wedding … {The Bell Hotel, Sandwich}

As a wedding photographer, it is important to visit the ceremony venue and the reception venues if at all possible. These may be the same venue, or different, close or far apart. However, it always helps to have some compositional ideas for both good and bad weather.

Today I visited the Bell Hotel in Sandwich and put together a montage of ideas for Siobhan and Gary’s upcoming wedding at the end of the month.

It’s a lovely venue, right on the river, and there is lots of potential for great photos, come rain or shine!

I had some time left on my car park ticket, so decided to have a stroll around the area. I came across The Secret Gardens Tea Room which is in the grounds of The Salutation. What a wonderful find! The tea rooms sourced their crockery, tables, wall lights and tea stands from the Savoy in order to bring that quintessential afternoon tea feel. I enjoyed tea (made with real tea leaves) and a fruit scone and had time to make some notes for the wedding.

It really is one of the benefits of being a full-time photographer – rather than having to fit in venue viewings in the evening or weekend, I can take my time to visit not only the venues, but the areas close by and find little gems like this. And have tea and scones at the same time!
