A lovely testimonial from Sarah and Grant married at Pines Calyx

After photographing their August wedding at Pines Calyx, I was delighted to open my emails this morning to such kind words from the lovely Sarah and Grant …

Sunshine at the coast – Sarah and Grant’s wedding at Pines Calyx {sneak peek}

In the lead up to a wedding, I always check the weather report.¬†Yesterday’s report was somewhat mixed. With a rainy start and heavy cloud forecast all day, it just seemed a little unfair bearing in mind the gorgeous location on the cliffs of St Margaret’s Bay.

When I arrived at Sarah and Grant’s house, only five minutes from Pines Calyx (http://pinescalyx.co.uk/), it was dismal and overcast. But preparations were in full swing and hopes were high.

Oh Sarah, you looked incredible …

But it didn’t matter at all!Sarah and Grant married at Pines Calyx by Samantha Jones Photography 3 Because the sun broke through the clouds and it was absolutely glorious!Sarah and Grant married at Pines Calyx by Samantha Jones Photography 4 Grant particularly wanted a shot by Winston Churchill and so of course, we had to oblige!Sarah and Grant married at Pines Calyx by Samantha Jones Photography 5I was so pleased to have been booked by this lovely couple on recommendation by Jane at Pines Calyx. Although I was only with them and their guests for a few hours, it was thoroughly enjoyable and I’m sure that the celebrations will have continued long after I left.

Wishing you both much happiness and joy. ¬†And no more fire alarms … xx

Judy and Dave … a sneak peek of their wedding at Pines Calyx

I met Judy and Dave at a wedding open day at the gorgeous eco-friendly wedding venue of Pines Calyx (www.pinescalyx.co.uk) where I am delighted to be one of their recommended photographers. I was so pleased to receive an email early this year from Judy, checking to see if I was available on their wedding date which fell on the spring equinox, the day after a partial solar eclipse and the final day of the Six Nations Rugby tournament. All of these things were brought up during the speeches but best man Mike didn’t reveal the scores … Pines Calyx, being so close to France, has very limited internet or mobile reception …

The day was overcast, with forecast of rain. A really rather chilly. But luckily the forecast was wrong and we were able to take the formal shots outside and also have a quick stroll through the gardens. As Dave is a geoscientist, and with the fact that Pines Calyx is hewn from the chalky cliffs, it seemed right to ensure that we had at least one portrait with the cliffs in the background …

We are lucky at Pines in that there is an elevated area from which to take the group shot. The guests gathered together (using each other for warmth!) and I took the top image and my second shooter, Sarah, captured the one of Judy and Dave. I think it’s a beautiful image, and reflects their joy.

Thank you both so much for making us feel so welcome – to be thanked in the speeches at my first wedding of the year was a great way to kick off the season. I’m very much looking forward to editing and sharing your images with you and thank you again for inviting us to share your special celebrations.

Sara and Steve – the fully story of their eco friendly wedding at the gorgeous Pines Calyx

Sara and Steve met me at a wedding fair … even before they were engaged … Sara was absolutely intent on having Pines as their wedding venue and on a very bright sunny day last May, her wish came true. For bridal preps, Sara had hired a local house and she and Steve also stayed there on their wedding night – it overlooked the Channel and was light and bright and full of quirky details – perfect as far as I was concerned! Weddings are emotional occasions and this was no different. Happy to have loved ones with them to celebrate and sad that there were others who couldn’t be there.

Pines Calyx is a beautiful venue, set naturally on the cliffs at St Margaret’s Bay. The first place in the UK to see the sun and affording so many great places to take bride and groom portraits … even on the beach! The feel of this wedding was relaxed, the invitations had been designed by Sara and Steve themselves, along with the menus (designed personally for each guest), the seating plan was an upscaled ladder from Sara’s dad, the list of incredible details is endless.

The flowers and bouquets were exquisite and all prepared by Steve’s mum. The cake, and cup cakes, were incredible … and made by Steve’s sister – the bride was reduced to tears on seeing the cake as it was absolutely perfect!

I am delighted to share with you images from Sara and Steve’s wedding day – the day Sara couldn’t wait to marry her best friend … enjoy!

We had such a wonderful day and I was truly sad to leave. My second shooter, Sarah, and I enjoyed the hospitality and generosity shown to us by everyone and it was an absolute pleasure to capture the smiles, the laughter and the tears. Sara and Steve chose to have albums with their package and I know that nan had a long list of people that she wanted to show her one to!

I look forward to capturing more of Sara and Steve’s life events … and thank you both again for making me feel so very much part of your day xx

And I’ll see you both again at Dan’s and Alison’s wedding in August!

Sunshine at the south coast … Sara and Steve’s sneak peek from their Pines Calyx wedding

How much fun was Sara and Steve’s wedding on Saturday at the beautiful venue of Pines Calyx in St Margaret’s Bay. Although the day dawned slightly overcast, Chris, Sara’s dad, confidently told me that it was going to clear by 1pm – the time that he would be walking his daughter along the aisle to marry her best friend, Steve. And he was right …

Sara, you looked stunning, your amazing bridal gown suited you perfectly.

Steve, your speech was so heartfelt, there was barely a dry eye in the house.

And you both were such fun to be with that it makes my job so very, very easy.

Much love to you both and I hope that you have such an amazing adventure on your honeymoon – I can’t wait to hear all about it and to share your images with you. Thanks again for inviting me to be a small part of your wonderful day xx

A year in weddings {2011}

A little late in posting this but small things, such as completing my tax return, got in the way! I thought that I would take a look back over the past year to remember the fun, the laughter, the emotion, the sun … and the rain! Hope you enjoy the recap of my wedding photography year – I’m really looking forward to what 2012 brings!

We started off the year at Cooling Castle Barn in January at the celebrations of Chris and Kelly. Chilly winds but sunny smiles and amazing food too!

February saw me both in Essex and in Kent – weddings only days apart but such different weather. First in February were Vikki and Mark and the Lords Country Club … it was chilly indeed!

And then on to Hever Castle for Kinga and Ian’s celebrations … with blue skies!

And then a little break (but lots of work in between) and May found me local to Faversham, in Oare with Gemma and Charlie, poppies, a cat, Canadians and lots of gossip …

June brought a truly rock ‘n’ roll wedding with James and Sarah. Classy outfits, fabulous car and tattoos too!

August brought a wedding at Salmestone Grange in a chapel with Vicky and Cliff … and saw me nearly fall into a pond …

And the following day saw me at the iconic Chelsea Register Office with Amanda and Rob, a Red London bus, a trip on the London Eye, hailstones and a double rainbow!

Early September saw me at St Martins Acrise and the Pines Calyx with the very happy Elaine and Roger and magician with tricks that I just couldn’t work out …

And Bonnie and Barney’s amazingly colourful, fun filled and happy celebrations at St Margaret’s Church and Thanet House …

And then Andy and Jimmy’s celebrations at the Chapel Down Winery where we got a bit sunburnt …

And I was a guest at Emily and Anton’s wedding later on in September, but I sneaked a couple of pics …

Sadly (for me) Charlotte and Rhys got married in Cyprus but, luckily (for me) had their reception at East Quay in Whistable … where we set up a photobooth …

And then, as guest and photographer, I listened to Mike sing his vows to Kathryn in an intimate ceremony near Faversham … an amazing lady in red!

And then my final wedding of the year in November when Karen and Dan celebrated at Hadlow Manor near Tonbridge and it rained so hard that it bounced back up to knee height … did they mind, not at all!

What a year. I thoroughly enjoyed being part of each and every wedding celebration and am very much looking forward to 2012.

Elaine and Roger {married} at St Martin’s Acrise and The Pines Calyx … sneak peek

Congratulations to Elaine and Roger who celebrated their wedding on Saturday at St Martin’s and then their reception at The Pines Calyx (www.pinescalyx.co.uk). The weather was gorgeous and the rain only arrived as I was making my way home. Flowers and hairbands were made by Elaine herself (how did she find the time!) and Elaine and her bridesmaids had the makeup talents of the ever fabulous Emily www.emilyrosemakeupartist.co.uk. Magical entertainment was by Phil from www.magicbeyondbelief.co.uk and Elaine and Roger ensured that their guests were laughing from start to finish.

Here’s their sneak peek … I’ve never had such an unruly mob of bridesmaids and ushers giving instructions to the happy couple … I nearly fell of the table with laughter!

I am sure that you are both going to have the most enjoyable time on your honeymoon and thank you both again for including me in your day. The full story of your day will follow soon … Hugs xx
